Déclassement et reconversion. Le sort des musiciens du roi après le 10 août 1792

Abstract : On August 10, 1792, court musicians lost their stable and well-paid employment in the service of the crown. The lot of 40 % of them is unknown. Of the remainder, 69 % continued to play music in the Conservatory or in the orchestras of the Parisian theatres, work as private teachers, or take on any sort of musical employment they could find. Only a few of them abandoned music to go into the army or public service. A handful of survivors reappear at the Restauration, generally in the hope of obtaining a pension.
